Let the summer activities begin!

Feasting on fresh Blueberries and Blackberries is a part of summer fun and picking them yourself makes them the freshest berries possible. Our blueberries are ripening slightly ahead of the blackberries, but both will be ready Thursday, June 1st. This “May rain” will insure they are plump and juicy and ready for you.

We grow our berries with organic practices on grassy terraces, so they have no pesticides and are easy to pick.  The blueberry bushes are a little taller than last year, but are still easy for all sizes to reach. We suspect some of you are taller too!  We look forward to seeing you. Our blackberries are also thornless so they are easier to pick than wild ones.

Parking is plentiful – shade is readily available as well as restroom facilities.  Plan ahead for FATHER’S DAY (Sunday, June 18th) – Berry picking makes a great “kid-led” activity.

2016 BlackberriesWhat’s left?

More blackberries are ripening daily and will continue to ripen for the next few days.  The blueberries are almost finished but there are still some left.  Any that were shaded are ripening a little later.  You will need to bend down to find them though. Smaller kids totally have the advantage in picking the blueberries because they can see them easier.  It seems that keeping the berries in the bucket may be more difficult for the younger kids. Some early pickers did find some red raspberries on Thursday.

Father’s Day Berry Picking

Father's Day berry pickingSunday’s berry picking was a great way to celebrate Dad. These two found a lot of berries together.  Some brought Dad for a special outing and others picked berries and made special desserts. Nothing says “love” to your family like a homemade dessert especially when you spent your time picking the berries fresh!  Berry DessertsHere are two photos of desserts submitted by customers.  Blueberry Ice Cream and Blackberry Cobbler.  Both look so yummy!  These photos are inspiring, thank you, Brittany and Sara, for sending them.

The weather on Sunday was absolutely beautiful.  It was breezy, with low humidity and temperatures in the 80’s!  After Thursday’s rain and hail storm, this totally made up for it.  Yes, this was a very unique and special way to spend time with family.  No one was in a hurry, which was great.  Plus, having a kid-led activity went over big with the Dads.  One Dad actually said it was the “Best Father’s Day ever!”  Oh, and once they were done picking berries, they still got to go home and enjoy eating them!

NOTE:

Our next pick is Thursday June 23rd and WE HAVE A LARGE GROUP SCHEDULED.  The Senior Center in LaGrange is having a berry picking trip here Thursday morning.  Please check this website or our facebook page before you come on Thursday to make sure enough berries are left.  By Sunday June 26th, loads more will be ripe.
